What is effective communication?

Teachers create opportunities and conditions to learn. The classroom environment, which is largely driven by the teacher, can either inhibit engagement or allow it to flourish. The communication that occurs in the classroom is central to student engagement. However, being flexible with communication is particularly important. This is particularly true for students who may not be readily able to engage for a number of different reasons, including language barriers, individual personality, mental health, or additional abilities/needs. Understanding how to model adaptable communication strategies can be helpful for students, but also for the ways in which we communicate with parents and carers and colleagues.
