Findings from the environmental scan

In conjunction with the literature review, an environmental scan of existing resources targeted to school transition was also conducted. The purpose of the environmental scan was to identify quality practice that could be recommended to teachers, and that could also be used to identify gaps and opportunities in the school transition domain.

The environmental scan found a range of resources: most of them, however, were largely theoretical with some providing practical guidance or activities that can be directly implemented in schools. The main opportunities for building upon these existing resources included: clearly bringing the student voice to the forefront of resources, ensuring resources are immediately transferable to the classroom context, and ensuring the resources are useful for all stakeholders – students, teachers, parents and carers – in the school transition process.
